Born in Tembisa, Mahlangu will present a buzzing line-up, joining him on stage will be Zibusiso Makhathini on keys, Dalisu Ndlazi on Bass, Riley Giandhari on Drumsand Thabo Sikhakhane on Trumpet.

 

I am a “every genre” type of horn player that is very much influenced by what is around me. People can expect nothing but the truth when they hear me play. My music come from the bottom of my heart.  says Mahlangu. “I am planning to portray my versatility reflecting all my life stories through the music I will play during this tour.”

 

Thami Peace Mahlangu started playing music at church where he played trumpet at age 12 and later on was taught clarinet and saxophone at the Moses Taiwa Molelekwa Art Foundation at the age of 14 (2007), where his talent was discovered and nurtured. He became part of the MTMAF band called Taiwa Jazz band from 2008 until 2012, played with the famous percussionist Poncho Sanchez at a workshop that was held in Johannesburg at Moses Molelekwa Art Centre by the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.


Mahlangu shared stages with an impressive list of well-known musicians such as Hugh Masekela, Feya Faku, McCoy Mrubata, Zim Ngqawana, Sydney Mnisi, Boney Rachabane, Zonke, Lira, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbuli, Concord Nkabinde, Carlo Mombelli, Paul Hanmer, Khaya Mahlangu, Sydney Mavundla, Thandi Ntuli, Bejamin Jephta, Kwesta, Dj Black Coffee, Shimza, Monique Bingham, Zakes Bantwini and Kelly Khumalo. In 2015/16 and 2017 he was nominated to be part of the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Band under the leadership of Concord Nkabinde, Carlo Mombelli and Buddy Wells. He is a graduate and has a Diploma in Popular Music and Jazz and currently doing his B-tech at Tshwane University of Technology.

 

This concert is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit that aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape. Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project housed within the SAMRO Foundation. Concerts SA receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO, the SAMRO Foundation and Concerts Norway. Working with musicians, promoters, venue owners and audiences, and providing support to the sector through research and skills development for music professionals, the project aims to build a vibrant and viable live music circuit in southern Africa.  It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.
